MISHAWAKA — You go there to get the green, but Monday a local bank stressed the importance of going green.

The new First Federal Savings Bank in Mishawaka is unlike any other bank in Indiana. The new facility is the only bank branch in the state that is LEED-registered. That stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.

The site has two free standing wind turbines, solar panels, a green roof and geothermal heating and cooling. There's even a parking space for hybrid vehicles.

"We want to encourage good environmental procedures which include hybrid cars,” Bank President Richard Belcher told WSBT News. “We also have a bicycle rack. We also get points for being close to a bus station so people can take buses and not necessarily drive their SUVs.

The bank is located on Edison Road in front of Movies 14.
