SOUTH BEND — The St. Joseph County voter registration had a backlog of almost 6,000 registrations, but they're finally caught up after almost two weeks of overtime.

More than 175,000 residents are now registered to vote in the county.

The backlog was caused by a large number of registrations that had to be added or changed.

"We had to enter them into the system,” said Pam Burnette of the county's voter registration office. “Any changes, any new ones, they all had to be entered into the system."

The county is expecting a big turnout for the May 6 primary due to the large number of registrations.
