SOUTH BEND — People began lining up for Hillary Clinton’s South Bend campaign stop early Saturday, three hours before doors at Coveleski Stadium were scheduled to open.

Mattie Cihak of Culver got in line at 10:30 to show her support.

"I like her because she has so much experience. She’s smart and she has a little bit of help with Bill in there."

Mike and Judy Rafferty of Elkhart said they came because they weren’t sure who to vote for.

"Actually, my wife just wanted to come to say she saw a presidential candidate," Mike Rafferty said.

By the time the doors opened at noon, the line stretched for almost two full blocks away from Coveleski.

One supporter, however, was disappointed that she couldn’t get in the door.

Renee Langdon of South Bend brought her year-and-a-half old St. Bernard, Drew, to hear Clinton speak.

Langdon said Drew often attended Canines at the Cove. But security personnel would not let her in the stadium with Drew.

"He’s a Democrat," Langdon said, "but he’s too young to vote."

Former Gov. Joe Kernan and Sen. Evan Bayh took the stage with Clinton just after 2 p.m.

Clinton said she is ready to play ball for South Bend, the state of Indiana and the country. She pledged to fix the economy and create a better image of the United States abroad.

Clinton told the crowd, which filled most of the field and the box seats at The Cove, that her candidacy is an historic moment for the country.

"I need your help to make it clear that we’re going to change America," she said.

Clinton then focused her speech on economics, saying the current administration is relying too heavily on foreign countries and outsourcing jobs.

She also touched on the energy crisis, high gas prices, the war in Iraq and rebuilding America’s infrastructure.

"It’s time to help build America again," Clinton said.

To say that Hillary Clinton has "caused misery for our country" by supporting the passage of NAFTA during her husband's presidency is absurd. Every living president, Democrat and Republican alike, came out in support of NAFTA at the time.

hillary tried her hardest to push NAFTA on everyone back during the clinton years. the ole bag is banking on the young people not being old enough to remember it! now, after the ruin it has caused, she is acting like she doesn't know a THING about it! seeing her on TV saying all that about "jobs, jobs, jobs" just makes me SICK!!! she has caused more misery here in our country that we even realize.

dofogo, it is you who is sadly misinformed. NAFTA was indeed created under the Clinton White House and Hillary was indeed a huge supporter behind it as First Lady. Just like the war, she tends to abandon her support when the going gets rough.

I for one thought that the rally was awesome. It was so exciting to see the future president of our country. And to "ev" that said that Hillary sent jobs away, you are so incredibly misinformed. You must be reading Obama's falst mailers. Check your facts. Hillary didn't not create NAFTA, she didn't vote for NAFTA and she's been saying for years that we need to fix NAFTA because it isn't working for America. Obama likes to change the facts to suit him. Go Hillary!

the thing that really stinks the most about this liar is that she is saying how we need to have "jobs!" well, she is the one who sent the jobs away!

Journalist: Nobody fought and died for a flag... they fought for the freedom the flag stands for. To suggest Obama doesn't honor the freedom of this country is absolutely absurd.

I went and saw Hillary at the cove I came away from it feeling very informed. It was refreshing to see so many young people there listening to her. Her ideas make good sense for what this country needs. For the people who post negative comments about her. Have you truly listen to her. And also let me guess you voted for GW Bush.

mr right, you are actually mr wrong. get a clue. barack obama is not a muslim, flag pins have nothing to do with patriotism and obama has led the senate in the pledge countless times. Try discussing issues and raise the level of discourse.

Booya: It's funny to see you lefties complain when Fox pulls the same tricks CNN and MSNBC have been pulling for years for the Democrats, socialists and communists. I also think it's funny when you lefties say you want to improve our image in the world. Who with? The French? The Chinese? The Iranians? Who cares what they think. On that note, Obama wanting to sit down with the Iranians and Hamas is like the police sitting down with mobsters and pedophiles. Don't coddle criminals, destroy them.

Saturday, Apr 26 at 4:27 PM Journalist wrote ...

it's the answer he gives and the action he takes when he is given one that makes a difference. And it's not a Fox News conspiracy Booya! Btw, it would interest you to know that when it comes to "honest news reporting" Fox has all the news networks beat. If it's not the lapel pin, it's the thought of him not "honoring" the flag. As a journalist, I find it rephrensible that Mr Obama cannot honor the flag that so many fought and died for.
