Some students stay home after Warsaw High threat

Warsaw High School is operating normally Wednesday after classes started with some students missing because of a threat.

On Monday, school officials found a message scrawled on a bathroom wall.

Warsaw School Superintendent Dr. Rob Haworth tells WSBT-TV that the school's law enforcement resource officer was notified about the incident and began an investigation.

School began at 7:30 a.m. as scheduled, but students may have noticed a police car on the parking lot.

No additional police besides the resource officer are in the building Wednesday. And school officials told SBT24/7 News that the graffiti did not indicate any attack at the school.

Most students are in class but some have chosen not to attend classes Wednesday, said concerned parents who called WSBT.

School officials say parents were not notified because school officials “did not see the threat as viable and thought it was just graffiti on a bathroom wall."

The police investigation continues, Haworth said.

The administration didn't handle this situation very well. Shouldn't a rumor of a shooting be taken serious? I mean come on! My parents where ignorant to the fact that there was even a rumor until I told them! Come on! We all know that WCS lies to everybody about everything! They can't even shut-off the football lights on time!

To the smarty, "Sadbuttrue" how awful that you feel the need to make a comment like that, I pity you. Are you a teacher or a student who recived all A's? Whose fault do you think that is?

I graduated from WCHS last year. Situations similar to this happen often. It's a high school... people do stupid things to obtain attention. Granted, if the student wanted attention, he/she got it. But let's think about it... if someone was going to carry out an attack and wanted to warn the general public about it, wouldn't they attempt to do so in a different manner? Writing on the bathroom wall doesn't do much... Look at the bathroom stall walls next time. There are threats everywhere.

Dear Henny Penny - The reason why parents were not notified of a threat is because THERE WAS NO THREAT! Why can't you understand that you are part of the problem. You're always looking for conspiracy where none exist. My child went to WCHS today and I'm Okay with the way the non-situation was handled by School Officials and Police. GROW UP AND TRY TO GET A GRIP!

I am a senior at WCHS.i feel as if we were lied to today & we were "yelled" at for something we had no control over. Honestly when we hear that there is a gun threat there is that "what if it really happens..."going threw your head....look at all the threats that have been made out there...look at the ones that went thru...they were huge and that is why you get that thought in your head. i feel we should've been told the truth.not accused of being immature.like we really wanted a cold off

Around 10:20 this morning the WCHS principal announced that students should not be texting or calling parents because of this threat. She said these were just rumors. I believe the superintendent just cleared it up; it was no RUMOR. So why were student lectured and parents discouraged from calling the school. Isnt it the parents right to know what is going on. Come on WCHS Administarators lets get a little more professional. Agro HS handled there threat this week totally different.

To all you anonymous people, you should have been in my shoes to know how it was handled. Please check your facts before you write something. If they would have 'acted' like you say they should have... you would have been the 1st ones screaming "why".. or they "blew it our of proportion"... either way its done, no one's happy! Its sad that you jump on the wagon, thinking nothing was done, by the way, the 1 cop wasn't in the car!.. in the building making sure you were OK!!!

I am a student right now at Warsaw.I think that our school is not taking the precautions that it should be taking. A year ago when the Virginia Tech shooting ocurred, a few days before, someone said that it was going to happen and no one responded to it, and look what happened. Our school is to worried about losing its reputation. I would rather be safe than sorry.

When i heard about the so called 'gun threat' that was supposed to take place at Warsaw High, I felt a little caoncerned... Then i realized, 'hey, its warsaw...' Even though our protection efforts are futile, (only one cop car? probably eating donuts and coffee) someone just had to act like a tough guy and scribble a message all over a bathroom wall... oh. i'm real scared...

I don't understand what the school is doing. The threat is a student there that must want attention. In order to get the attention he/she is threatening to take lives of other students. I don't think that anyone wants another situation like Virginia Tech. The school should have been more professional about this.

there have been numerous law enforcement officers at the warsaw high school campus today. just because wsbt reported that "No additional police...are in the building Wednesday" doesnt mean that its accurate. i'm glad that law enforcement in the warsaw area takes the lives of these children as serious as they do.

i am currently a senior at warsaw high school. i have also seen more police than usual. i feel that warsaw administrators and police have handled this situation very non-chalantly and it should have been handled as if a real situation could have occured out of it, or still could occur. there is no tellin whether this threat was real or not, and the way they handled could have caused multiple injuries and possibly deaths if this "threat" proved to be true.

Apparently its sad that parents can't contact the school, police dept. or sch. officer directly to get the straight story!

In my opinion warsaw community high school is being very ignorant in this situation. The school corporation is more woried about keeping their image, rather than the safety of their students. Better precautions should be made for the saftey of the students. Boycott warsaw high

I agree this threat is probably not anything. But 1 cop car? Come on people. At least take some precaution. I bet he's in his car sleeping with a donut on his belly.

i'm a student in warsaw high school right now. no matter what the news and the administrators say, i have myself seen more police than normal. the school knows its a problem. you must remember that this is the same school that told us m.r.s.a. is not real nor is it here, which both proved to be wrong.
