Atwood man, 19, faces reckless homicide charge

A 19-year-old Atwood, Ind., man faces felony charges in connection with a fatal crash Dec. 4 in Kosciusko County.

Ryan William Herrick was arrested at 4:45 a.m. Wednesday and charged with reckless homicide, the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department. He is accused of operating a motor vehicle involved in a fatal crash on Old Road 30, just west of County Road 800 West, police said. The crash killed Keith Hoffer, 76, of Atwood.

Herrick is being held on a $20,000 bond at the Kosciusko County Jail, police said.

Very sad...for everyone involved. Feel for the young man for having to learn such a hard lesson at such a young age..and obviously for the victims family as well.

I personally know Ryan and he is a good person. He made a mistake. I understand that the victims family is suffering but it was a mistake. I just feel like putting him in jail really isnt going to fix anything!

How sad his victim's family must feel without husband, father, grandfather. Keith Hoffer was loved by many in the community, he is greatly missed. This young man needs to be held accountable for his actions and should have learned that before he got behind the wheel of a vehicle. Maybe this will be a lesson to others his age and younger...
