ELKHART — Police have arrested a man they said may be connected to a homicide in early March.

On April 23, the Elkhart Police Department asked for help from the public in finding John Lipkins, a person of interest in the Gerald Wenger shooting death, because he might have had knowledge of the incident, police said.

Wenger, 35, of Elkhart, was found lying on a sidewalk in the 800 block of Monroe Street about 2 a.m. March 8. He was pronounced dead shortly after that, police said.

At 1 p.m. Wednesday, police received a phone call from a citizen with information on Lipkins’ whereabouts, police said.

Police eventually found him in the 500 block of Charles Street, where he was arrested without incident for a parole violation from the Department of Correction and two local warrants, police said.
