ROSELAND — If all goes as planned, construction will begin here in July on a Microtel Inn & Suites on Indiana 933, a Goshen architect told the Roseland Town Council Thursday night.

The three-story hotel will be built on the current site of the Great Wall restaurant, which will be razed. The owners are retiring.

Architect Michael Maust, whose firm designed the hotel for Joint Partnership Holdings LLC, appeared before the council to obtain a special use permit.

The council unanimously approved the permit, subject to proof the site is large enough to comply with all federal requirements. The council’s action was similar to approval given Wednesday by the Board of Zoning Appeals.

Maust said the hotel, whose chain is a Hyatt subsidiary, plans to open in February. It will have 71 to 75 rooms plus a swimming pool. Although plans show an indoor pool, Maust said the decision on that depends on cost.

“The hotel is just what the town needs,” said council member Robin Ackerson, the town building and zoning commissioner who has worked with the developers. “They’ve done everything they were supposed to do.”

I never understood why any company should get a tax abatement. I've never heard of a small company getting one.

Hey Robin, did you get a kick back or what, another hotel is the last thing this town needs, let us not forget the big hotel complex going in @ ND Eddy & Edison. How many empty hotel rooms does 1 city need

I wish they would stop building these limited service hotels, and build more full services hotels, we need a Sheraton or Wyndham or something with some class and event space!

Yep - just what Roseland needs, ANOTHER motel. That town is nothing but motels and restaurants now! It would be different if they were able to get tax dollars from them, but they are all owned by the Arabs or East Indians and they have tax abatements for 5 years! Come on Town Council, if it's 75 rooms then it has to be 3 stories high. The lots too small (maybe an acre there if that) for a 3 story motel -where are people going to park?? Another situation like the Holiday Inn Express??

The Great Wall had great food, and it will be missed. Progress is being made in Roseland, and no Snyders on the town council to claim it. Good job Roseland. First you took out the trash(the Snyders), now a new hotel.
