GRANGER -- Investigators say the fire that heavily damaged a Granger home this weekend was an accident. The Harris Township Fire Department says it started in the flue of the home's fireplace a little after 12:30 Saturday afternoon.

It happened in the Saddlebrook subdivision, sending smoke and flames high into the sky. A mother and her children were in the backyard of the home at the time. They weren't hurt.

Damage is estimated at $300,000. The home was valued at $675,000.

To Tadesco. Just because someone has worked hard to aquire a nice home (and pay the insurance) is no reason to be so cold and unfeeling. We all have trials and tribulations ...it's called LIFE you fool! If you work your fingers to the bone then you need to start working SMARTER not HARDER. Perhaps your negativity is the problem.

I wish they would shut the forums down also. It is out of hand.

Linda and South Bend, I agree! The negativity posted on these forums is ridiculous and hurtful/insensitive. Too bad it's not more like Voice of the People where there are some standards and controls against people starting rumors and kicking people when they are down. Hopefully more people will speak up and that will happen some day. This is too invasive of people's privacy. You should have to be able to back up your claims when you publicly accuse someone of wrongdoing.

I am sure they will be living it up in a hotel listening to their IPODS while their house is being repaired. Must me nice to be rich. I work my fingers to the bone and can barely afford my mortgage. Goes to show you, the rich get richer, and the poor get poorer. Oh, I have a college education too, so lack of education has nothing to do with it.

Leave these people alone already!!! It is bad enough that 3 children and a mother lost their home and a pet, and the ridiculous comments do not help. If it was determined to be an accident, then LET IT BE! What is the point in these forums?? I am all for freedom of speech, but these "boards" are nothing but a means for people to leave hurtful messages. I wish both local stations would shut them down. They do more harm than good.

Yah, they burned down their house for the fun of it. Lost all they had, including a family pet, just because they had nothing else to do that day. Finished counting all their money early in the afternoon so they decided to burn the house down right in front of the kids. Sounds like a worthy hobby to me. Does that scenario make you happy?

One of my neighbors had a brand new home built & the contractor did not install the fireplaces correctly. It burnt to the ground a week before the painting was to be done. So anything is possible.

How does a fireplace burn down a home? That really makes no sense. Especially a home like this. Surely a $675,000 home had a fireplace installed correctly. Have the arson investigators been there yet? I believe this requires a little investigating. Sounds like insurance fraud to me. Thank goodness no one was injured.
