Elkhart police arrested a man Monday after a taxi driver crashed his cab into an apartment building while fending off a robber.

An Ace Cab driver told police he picked up a man about 3 a.m. and headed toward the 300 block of West Indiana Avenue. While in the cab, the man pulled a knife and threatened to kill the driver unless he gave him money.

The driver crashed his taxi into building while struggling with the suspect, who fled the scene.

The suspect was found behind an address in the 300 block of Wagner Avenue, then chased by police to a nearby address before he was taken into custody.

Police have charged the man with fleeing arrest and public intoxication, and continue their robbery investigation.

There were no reports of injuries during the crash or chase.
