BENTON HARBOR — A 29-year-old Ohio man is recuperating in a Berrien County hospital after being shot in the chest early Tuesday, police said.

Benton Township police are looking for two people involved in the 2 a.m. shooting, which occurred in the 1200 block of Blossom Lane in Benton Township.

Witnesses reported that at least two men were shooting at each other minutes before the victim was found in a nearby residence where he had gone for help, said Detective Lt. Delmar Lange.

Police are looking for the men and a vehicle that left the area of the shooting.

Lange said it’s unclear at this point if the victim was part of the exchange of gunfire or if he was a victim in the shooting.

The man does not appear to have life-threatening injuries, police said. The shooting victim had previously lived in Benton Harbor before moving to Toledo, Ohio, a few years ago, Lange said.
