SOUTH BEND – Responding to a threat that a man had a gun in the business, more than a dozen police officers helped prevent the theft of movies from a video store.

An employee of Family Video, 1615 N. Portage Ave., called police about 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, reporting that a man inside the store was acting suspicious and possibly had a gun.

Officers on the city’s north side responded to the scene quickly – arriving at the store as the man ran out the back door.

Police caught the man with a half dozen DVDs, but no gun. He was arrested and taken to the county jail.

Your right Wally, so right. I do not have any right being like this towards Linda. She has enough problems already carrying a load like she does. Linda, I am sorry my Nubian princess. Please forgive me. Lets meet for dinner. Does Jenny Craig sound good?

Hey billy this is a clean place and we don't want any of that kind of talk in here. You don't even know what Linda looks like. I bet she is a 350 pound Nubian goddess. You couldn't even handle her!

Does anyone know what the movies were about? maybe they were really good movies that might be worth it like "dude where's my car". that movie rocked! or maybe they were adult oriented movies and he was just ashamed to rent them under his name. you shouldn't assume he was a bad person just because he "borrowed" a few movies. I'm sure he had his reasons.

Linda, acutally I was wrong. It was NOT a piece of celery in my pocket. I was just happy to see you!

Billy, I happen to know the employee personnally, and it might benefit you to know she was robbed, at gunpoint, in the same store, less than 6 months ago. Trust me she did the right thing!!!

Billy, Why would they be suspicious of it being a gun? Seems to me like you might have sent that message to them like maybe holding that stick of celery in your pocket in a threatening way. The employee can't see inside your pocket or a jacket. The employees don't need classes. A LOT of people get shot, stabbed and MURDERED because they hesitated. You are lucky you didn't get a dose of street justice.

ell him and the boys will ahve 6 DVD's to watch! Hey I wonder if they got that mastermind from the St. Vincent Depaul caper locked up with him. Boy , the stories they could tell! By the way, guns are in the 'adult only'section of the store.

Last time I checked, carrying a gun was LEGAL in Indiana. Yeah, you need a permit, but it is legal. All they had to do was ask "hey, what's in your pocket?" This did not need the intercession of a dozen uniformed officers, just one quick question. While they were busy subduing this ruthless criminal, other more serious crimes may have been taking place elsewhere. Family Video employee, despite the platitudes I'm sure you've heard since then, you DID NOT do the right thing.

I got in trouble at the Family Video once because I had a piece of celery that they mistook for a gun. They should give the employees there classes on what guns look like.

For his sake I hope stealing a half dozen dvd's are worth going to jail.
