ELKHART — A 53-year-old woman was arrested Wednesday after she allegedly assaulted two city police officers while they were eating lunch.

Police said the officers — Cpl. Stewart Herbert and Al Williamson — were at a restaurant on Elkhart’s west side when the Karen Schrock approached and struck one of the officers in the chest with a to-go box.

Schrock then threw a book, striking the second officer in the chest, and kicked him in the leg, investigators said.

Schrock was arrested after she yelled and cursed when the restaurant owner tried to intervene and calm her down, police said.

According to police, Schrock kicked the second officer two more times while she was being booked at the jail.

I pray for Karen and am glad nobody was harmed in this instance. I know Karen is embarrassed for her actions and if any of you readers would meet Karen on any other day you would see a pleasant and attractive lady who has had a very misfortunate life Karen is the type of person who will always show up to everything she is invited to and will be the first one to volunteer if you need a helping hand Even though a situation might seem one sided-there are always two sides to the story.

To this is not a constructive place to be. Where else can you get ignorance, comedy, cruelty, and compassion all in one place? It is addictive.

In saying this as nicely as possible. Do people not realize there are SEVERAL forms of Cancer?! Including Cancer of the Brain!! Where it effects their judgement!! Granted drinking doesn't make anything any better expecially on top of the strong medicines. But ask yourself what you would do if you were unable to work, in pain constantly, and basically just waiting to die. I'm not condoning at all what she did. But ever think that she may not have "sanely" realized what she was doing?!?

To the person who suggested the writer who was ashamed of themself for reading these post; you apparantly haven't a clue as to what they are talking about. But they were referring to you and they don't care to be in the company of people who lack compassion for others. It made me take a look at myself and I whole heartedly agree. Berating people who are experiencing tragedys in thier lives is a pathetic waste of time. WSBT should not promote it and to be sure I will not see any response to this.

If you are so ashamed then why are you putting a post here? Go bury your head in the sand where it belongs. The reality is there are a lot of SICK things going on around Elkhart whether you choose to face it or not!!! Get real!

I am a very stupid person. I read the articles and then I glance at the comments and ask myself, "Isn't my time worth more then this? Reading what people think and say about other people.?" It's NOT constructive, it's like a train wreck I guess. You wouldn't want to ever be involved in one, but if you saw one you would find it hard to look away. I guess that means we thrive on other peoples misery and if that's the case, I'm as pathic as you people who get great amusement from disturbing events.

AR: Why do people like you constantly defend bad behavior. She was drunk lady and violent. Where do you get off thinking that is okay. It isn't. My father in law died of cancer and he never assaulted anyone. What gives here? Are you going to try and say she was on medication (AND ALOCHOL WHICH PROBABLY FUELED HER RAGE) so that is her excuse to be cut a break? I don't think so.

PEOPLE! Just because you are a member of AARP does NOT mean you are a senior citizen. AARP represents "older" people (over 50), however, doesn't consider a person a senior citizen until over 65.

Her whole life has been crappy and devoid of magic because she was born with a weak brain. Outwardly she was attacking the cops, but inwardly she's attacking God or the Universe for making her the way she is. She was probably made to feel like diarrhea in school so she spends her adult life taking advantage of any opportunity to hurt people; like those who drive around with subwoofers cranked up, people who want to make the world an ugly place and ruin it for the rest of us...

HELLOOOOOOOO MICHAEL: Are you nuts? Down on her luck. Can you even read? She threw her take out order on the policemen, hit one in the chest with a book and kicked them in addition to being drunk in public. How is she down on her luck. She acted like a looney tune! She got arrested and deserved it. Maybe she should spend her money on something more beneficial besides alcohol.

Thursday, May 15 at 2:16 PM Amazing that.... wrote ...

She was not arrested when she first assalted the officers. The officers only started arresting her after she went off on the owner. That is cool. Also if you think she is a victum 'of society' then you have no business posting here so get off these boards and put your actions where your mouth is and go visit her in jail. Period! Charles Manson also stated that 'society' 'made' him kill. Baloney.

Hey SS did you ever take time to think maybe it was too many drinks that made her act like that. If she is in a pinch she should probably be saving her money not drinking it up. We would all love to snap every now and then but there are simple things you are taught as a child and one of those are keep your hands to yourself :) Treat others with respect and so on. I do not feel sorry for someone such as her that can't control herself.

So many valuable comments here. So many people looking to the news so that they can find someone to ridicule. How many even read the story about seniors feeling the pinch from the economy? Why not comment there? Nothing to add? Maybe you didn't notice because of the wig, but this woman is a senior citizen that has gone her whole life without trouble. Don't you even wonder what happened to make her do something like this? She shouldn't have done it, so why did she?

She looks like a victim of our society. If you ever wonder how people in other countries feel about Americans take a look at this picture and remember that this is someones daughter, maybe mother, sister, wife. Hold her responsible for making choices for putting herself where she is but don't forget to ask yourself if you have helped people like her. Americans can't help disaster victims in other countries fast enough. Most Americans won't help Americans like this one at all. Just mock her

If you knew Al Williamson you could appreciate how stupid this incident is. He's as big as she is challanged in the looks department. The guys a tree for crying out loud! Hit him with a to-go box? This guy packed a TOOL BOX for lunch and grew up on a diet of wrenches and rachets. Kicked him? He was hit by a car in a dealership showroom once and didn't know it until someone told him he dented a fender. Give her a break. Arrest her, there is no reason to humiliate her. This kind of behavior stinks.

Kristin is right though, they come in all types. I am sure this lady has got issues either way. Hopefully she gets some help, looks like she needs it.
