SOUTH BEND — WSBT News Anchor Debra Daniel appeared in court Monday. She pleaded guilty to charges of drunk driving and leaving the scene of an accident.
In April, police arrested Daniel near the intersection of Ironwood and Cleveland roads.
As part of her plea, a judge suspended her driver's license for 30 days, gave her one year of probation, and ordered her to undergo an alcohol assessment program. She will also attend a Victim Impact Program.
Shortly after her court appearance, Daniel released this statement:
“This is the biggest mistake of my life. I can’t tell you how disappointed and humiliated I am. I want to apologize to our viewers, my colleagues, family and friends, and all of the students that I’ve spoken to through the years.
"I also want to apologize to anyone who has lost a loved one to a drunk driver. As many of you have said, I am blessed no one was hurt. It’s a horrible way to learn a lesson, and it will never happen again.
"I’d like to thank WSBT, which has been more than compassionate, and all of you who have sent emails and letters and cards of support. I can’t tell you how much that’s meant.
"I look forward to getting back to work and hope to see you soon."
Debra Daniel has been working in our newsroom for the last couple weeks helping us gather the news. You will see Debra back on the air Tuesday, starting with WSBT News at 5 p.m.

This came from the DMV book itself...When a motorist is convicted of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, or with a blood-alcohol level of .08 percent or more, the court is required to suspend his or her operator license for 90 days or up to two years. The suspension periods are longer for repeat offenders.(mind you it says nothing about a 30 day suspension)GO FIGURE
