SOUTH BEND — A South Bend police officer accused of conducting a mortgage scam has resigned from his job.

Sgt. Robert Culp, a 17-year veteran of the police department, submitted a letter of resignation to the city’s Board of Public Safety.

The board voted unanimously to accept the letter during a special session Wednesday afternoon.

Culp, who lives in New Carlisle, was suspended from the force with pay last Friday, after charges from the U.S. attorney’s office indicated that he defrauded mortgage companies in a scheme that included at least 190 homes.

Culp has entered a guilty plea in the case and is expected to appear in federal court next week.

Well in a little over two years he was able to swap out 190 houses I'd say with all the extra time on his hands his sales ought to skyrocket! P.S You could teach Lueke a thing or two!
