PLYMOUTH — Two men remained hospitalized Tuesday after a two-vehicle accident at 5:40 p.m. Monday at the intersection of U.S. 31 and 4A Road.
Marshall County police said Jay Drudge, 32, of Plymouth, was airlifted from the scene to Memorial Hospital South Bend, suffering from internal injuries. A hospital spokeswoman said Tuesday that Drudge is in serious condition.
He was a passenger in the vehicle driven by Michael Rex, 31, of Argos, who was taken to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center Plymouth, then transferred to Memorial Hospital with neck and arm injuries, police said. His condition was fair, hospital officials said Tuesday.
Police said the Rex vehicle was eastbound on 4A Road at 5:40 p.m. Monday, and was attempting to cross the northbound lane of U.S. 31. Rex told police that he looked to the south to check for oncoming traffic and did not see the northbound vehicle until he was struck in the passenger side.
Terry Sullivan II, 33, of Twin Lake, Mich., was the driver of the northbound vehicle on U.S. 31. Police said he told them he was driving at about 60 mph and did not see the Rex vehicle enter his path until it was too late. The Sullivan vehicle’s front end struck the Rex vehicle.
The impact sent Rex’s 2004 Dodge Durango into the ditch on the northeast corner of the intersection, where it then rolled over, ejecting Drudge from the passenger seat, and landing on the driver’s side, facing north.
The Sullivan Chevy Trail Blazer was pulling a 16-foot trailer. The Trail Blazer spun around, coming to rest on U.S. 31 north of the intersection, and the trailer was disconnected from the vehicle.
Sullivan was taken to Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center Plymouth where he was treated for face and hand abrasions, police said, and later released.
Sullivan’s passenger, Adam Harris, 43, of Muskegon, Mich., also was treated for head abrasions at SJRMC Plymouth and later released, police said.
Marshall County Sheriff’s Department personnel were assisted by Indiana State Police, the LaPaz Town Marshal, LaPaz Firefighters and EMS, Plymouth firefighters and EMS, and Med Flight.
The incident remains under investigation, pending results of lab work, police said Tuesday morning.

Jay and Mike are so very lucky to be here today.... after seeing the vehichle it is no more than a miracle that these guys are here today. As far as a drug test being done.... of course a toxicology report was ran on all drivers and passengers involved in the accident due to the severity. It is awful that some people have to make such negative assumptions before they know the facts. Alcohol/drugs was not the factor and did not impair any of the drivers or passengers involved in this accident.
