MISHAWAKA — Hundreds of people are assessing the damage after severe storms dumped more than just rain. Golf ball-sized hail pounded cars and homes Sunday.

At Gurley Leep on Grape Road in Mishawaka, the storm has impacted more than 300 vehicles.

"I've heard the pager for the body shop many many times today, so [we're] very, very busy," said General Manager Tom TenHove.

In a matter of minutes Sunday, strong winds and hail moved in.

Ty Schleisman was at work at Logan's Roadhouse in Mishawaka when it happened.

"Little storm, big pain," said Schleisman. "It killed business for a couple hours on Father's Day, which hurt."

He watched as the hail knocked out some of their neon lights and nicked their cars.

"You're hoping for the best and, at the same time, you know your car's being beat up and the damage is being done to it and you can't do anything about it," said Schleisman.

Lee Hennings is just happy that he wasn't home when the storm hit. It knocked a large part of a tree onto his house in South Bend

"The way it looks, the house survived; the tree did not, but the house did," remarked Hennings.

He's assessing the damage like many others.

At Indian Lakes Apartments many tenants have called management to report damage.

And at Gurley Leep, they're not just busy with their own vehicles.

"We've gotten a lot of calls from customers as well as insurance agents and companies. So we'll be 24 hours a day not before too long," said TenHove.

Gurley Leep plans to market the damage caused by the storm in a "hail sale" and pass the cost savings onto the customer.

State Farm Insurance has received 486 auto claims and 277 house claims in Mishawaka.

State Farm is in the process of planning a drive-thru claim clinic for later this week.

I had $3,106 in damage and the storm hit 5 min before I got off. I couldv'e gotten into the garage if mother nature had waited another 15 min.
