MISHAWAKA – Police continue to investigate an incident in which a man was allegedly stabbed by his wife after the two got into an argument about drugs.

Police were called to an apartment in the 5500 block of Town Center Drive about 8:15 a.m. Wednesday on the report that a man had been stabbed.

Outside the apartment building, police reported, they found a 69-year-old man with a small wound to his chest who was alleging his wife had stabbed him with a kitchen knife.

Police found the man’s 53-year-old wife in the couple’s apartment, along with a knife with its handle broken off.

The husband told police that his wife was upset that he wouldn’t buy her drugs anymore.

He told police that after being stabbed, the knife was stuck in his chest and he had to break off the handle to remove it.

Besides stabbing him, the man said the woman also attacked him, leaving scratches on his face, neck and arms.

The man was taken to an area hospital, where he was treated and released. The case is continuing to be investigated by the St. Joseph County Family Violence Unit.
