GOSHEN — The poor economy continues to take its toll on the recreational vehicle industry.

Dutchmen Manufacturing in Goshen is laying off 116 people and closing two facilities. Their last day at work is Aug. 24.

Dutchmen produces 21 brands of towable recreation vehicles, according to the company’s Web site.

Other RV companies also announced layoffs in the past few months.

Earlier this week, Newmar Corp. in Nappanee announced it will cut an unspecified number of jobs next week. The company eliminated 118 positions in January. Keith Weinrich, director of human resources, would not say how many employees will be laid off this time, saying only that the layoffs will be effective Wednesday.

I don't know why all the economy problems seem to be a surprise to everyone the high oil prices effect everything. Everyone needs to wake up and see that there is a new way of life is coming alot less play time and alot more people working 2- 3 jobs to just keep a roof over head

Not surprised at all. Before years end, there will be thousands of RV workers looking for work. All because of this stupid oil crisis.

I'm glad they reported this but I'm sure it isn't a surprise. All RV and trailer companies are losing business.
