EAU CLAIRE — The spit was flying in Eau Claire. The International Cherry Pit Spitting Championship pitted young and old alike for the coveted title.

Tree-Mendus Fruit Farm sponsors the event every July since 1974.

It's not as easy as it looks. Still, Brian Krause took the crown for a seventh time with a spit of 56 feet, 7 and a half inches.

He claims there's no secret to his pit spitting success, there's just something in the air.

"It really doesn't matter. Just stick your hand in there. You have to wait for a good wind. Hopefully, you get a nice round one. That third one I spit should've gone farther, but it still worked out," Krause said.

Among his prizes: his own apple tree in the orchard, plus hotel and restaurant stays for next year's competition. Krause competed against his dad who is a champion himself.
