AKRON — A military widow in Fulton County is doing her part to make sure her husband's memory lives on.

Jayme Patterson's husband, Sgt. Nick Patterson, was killed in Iraq. She created a 'Field of Honor' in Akron, where more than 200 flags fly to represent Indiana service members who are overseas or who have died fighting.

People donate money for personalized flags in honor of a loved one.

“It shows a lot about how our community is really supportive of our troops and of our past veterans," Jayme Patterson explained. "It really means a lot to know that other people feel the same way as I do about people that fight for our country.”

The donations go to a memorial fund in Nick Patterson's name. It covers expenses for a local basketball camp.

The flags will stay on display outside of Akron Elementary School until Sunday.

The Field of Honor is located in Akron. The school behind which the flags are flying is located right of off St. Rd. 19. You can see the flags from the road! Please feel free to come right up to the flags and take a look at each ribbon noting a tribute to a fallen/honored veteran!
