ELKHART — Indiana State Police received a tip Wednesday afternoon from the Elkhart City Police Department that a person and vehicle matching the description from an attempted abduction Sunday in Vigo County was spotted in Elkhart. The individual described to police also had a bandage on his hand.
According to the ISP, the 22-year-old victim was attacked about 5 p.m. Sunday at the Garden Quarter Apartments in southwestern Vigo County. She had just entered her vehicle and fastened her seat belt when the suspect opened her door, applied a stun gun to her back many times then tried to take her from the car. Because the seat belt was still attached, he was unable to do so.
The suspect, police said, then climbed into the rear seat and tried to choke the victim as he ordered her to drive away. As she was leaving the apartment complex, she found a knife in her driver’s side seat area and began stabbing the suspect many times. The victim then stopped her car a few blocks from the attack, left the car and stopped a passing motorist for help. The suspect fled on foot.
ISP troopers and Vigo County sheriff’s deputies set up a perimeter and began the search for the suspect, who the victim does not know, police said. The victim was treated at the scene for abrasions, but refused to be taken to the hospital.
The suspect is described as a white male, mid- to late-20s, about 5-foot-10 and weighing about 210 pounds. He also has short dark brown hair, possible facial hair on the lower chin, and was wearing a red T-shirt with an unknown logo, khaki shorts, sunglasses and tan "flip-flop"-type sandals.
Police also say the suspect should have knife wounds on both hands and possibly the right leg and abdomen. He also was seen limping after the attack, and it is believed he was parked next to the victim’s vehicle at the time of the attack.
The suspect’s car is described as a medium blue Mitsubishi Spider or Eclipse convertible with a black top and a temporary (paper) plate in rear window, with an unknown type of a novelty plate attached to the front bumper.
ISP detectives are requesting help from the public in finding the suspect. Anyone having any information relevant to this case should call the Terre Haute post at (812) 299-1151 or 1152.

Stop em, it's sad that we are in such a state of affairs...but how would you like it if you got pulled over 10 times a day for a crime you didn't commit? Maybe we need a better temporary tag policy. There's no need to hassle innocent folks.
