(WSBT photo) ELKHART — Another local military unit was deployed to serve in Iraq. 170 members of the 1538th Transportation Company based in Elkhart left Tuesday morning. More than 100 family members and friends said goodbye to soldiers heading off to war. “It's hard, but I feel very proud of him and I know that he's doing the right thing for our country and hopefully, you know, everything will go well and we’ll be able to see him soon,” said Jennifer Gorsuch, whose husband was deployed. Family members share many mixed emotions as they said goodbye. "All kinds of emotions, scared, worried, but we know he's going to be OK,” said Laurie Abrell, whose son was deployed. “We just tell him we're behind him 100 percent.” Some family members say they’ve seen loved ones off for deployment overseas and it doesn't get any easier each time that they have to do this. “This is his second tour and it’s tough, it’s really tough, but he'll be safe, he'll be home and he’ll get the job done,” said Pat Kearsy whose son was deployed. "It’s the second time over there too, it’s hard,” said daughter Jessica Ridenour. “I hope that he's OK, comes home safe and I miss him." The soldiers will report for training at Camp Atterbury, near Edinburgh, Indiana. They will be deployed overseas. Most PopularMore Good StuffAdvertisement
