GOSHEN — Three teenagers have been arrested for allegedly attacking a 15-year-old Goshen High School student and later posting video footage of the fight online.

Officers took the three female suspects, ages 15, 15, and 16, into custody late Wednesday afternoon, according to Goshen Police spokesman Joe Brown.

The girls were transported to the local juvenile detention facility. They have not been officially charged.

According to officials, the victim was beaten up by other students on the last day of school, June 3. Police and school administrators, however, did not find out about the fight until Monday, when they received word video footage of the assault was posted on the popular video-sharing site YouTube.

The popular home video Web site had carried the posting since June 20, but it has since been removed, according to Goshen Community Schools Superintendent Bruce Stahly.

You can read more about this story in Friday’s South Bend Tribune.

More and more of us are realizing that it's pretty odd in the first place to release our kids into the custody of an institution to be socialized according to peer pressure, to base esteem on comparisons with others, to learn indifference, to seek out and have contempt for weakness in others. There is no good socialization in school. Look at this: http://www.doe.in.gov/sservices/homeschool.html Scroll down to the "Home School Enrollment Total By Year" link. Things change.

The Golden Rule. That's all that matters here, we've given up on this one simple requirement for living in society. Bring back the golden rule, all this goes away. For those of you too indoctrinated in our egocentric utopia to remember, the golden rule is: Treat others as you would like to be treated. I'm guessing these perps wouldn't like getting beaten up. Our egocentric "I want I get" society has eroded this one core value.

Perhaps if they spend time in the correction system until they are 21 it will change their ways and others who think that doing something like this is cute. I think parents are partly responsible for this and should teach their kids that fight never solved anything. Bullies have been around forever and will always be there but you don't have to put up with it. Speak out those of you who are being subject to these kind of attacks and let the authorities handle it the right way.

What is wrong? You took prayer out of the classroom and parents took kids out of church.Put God first instead of yourselves and we can all turn this around. And Brad is right, parents MUST be held accountable.

I spoke with my daughter about this incident and asked her if she knew this girl that was beaten. And much to my suprise, she informed me that this very "victim" had threatened to beat her up on several occasions, at GHS, in front of other students and a cafe monitor. She was afraid to tell me b/c of retaliation. Please parents and administrators, talk to the students and lets all get to the root of these social issues. Why beat each other up and why are you afraid to report it?

Yeah a fair fight is a fair fight... we are talking about more than one girl on ONE GIRL... that is NOT GOOD!!! I have 3 teenager daughters and if they EVER jumped a girl with their friends I would beat their butts right in front of those girls. STOP turning your heads to this brutality. Wake up people. Then again with the way some of you speak I see why this happens in our society.

As a parent of an 11 yr old who has suffered the same type of abuse/bullying, I did what any caring parent would do for a child they love, I stepped in and helped my child. For those that say that parents need to just let it ride out... SHAME ON YOU!!!! You are probably the parent of the kids that are abusing/bulling. If you had to watch you child crying on a daily basis your tune would change. To the girl that suffered in this case, I am sorry that you too had to suffer this way.

11:44 AM Lorena...this country may have been founded on Christian beliefs but we are a million miles away from what our Founding Fathers had in mind. In a nutshell, this "Christian" country asked God to please leave and He has.Until we as a nation accept that fact things are only going to get worse. What is happening today should not shock anyone...it was predicted in the Bible thousands of years ago! God help us. Please!

Everyone is acting like no one in history has ever been jumped! It's been happening for a looooong time now. The only difference is kids nowadays have the internet to bragg about it. We just used to go back to school and bragg. It happens. Let it go. I hope the girl is okay, but really, kids fight . Get over it! And yes, I also have been jumped in my life. I'm still okay. No permanent damage. She'll be fine.

Where is the love of your neighbor as yourself? Parents, what have you taught your childre? Why are they acting like savages in the middle of so called Christian country? ^Please, parents, take them to church and teach them the love of God.

This is what happens when you don't spank your kids when they are growing up. Kids today are lawless because everyone is too scared to discipline their kids.

Basically, it's just kids letting off steam. I say let them work out their problems the way they see fit. It's too late at 15 to do any re-parenting anyway. Let the little angels go full circle, maybe this is the only way that they will learn about life at their age. A few of them lose an eye, or a couple teeth... put the results on YouTube and I bet you see less of this. Peer pressure is an amazingly powerful force. These parents failed. Too late now. Their behavior belongs to society now!

The problem with kids... the problem with parents... yadda yadda, lots of recrimination. Bottom line: Society is made of imperfect humans, and you can't solve your problems with the same thinking that caused them. Fix yourself, the world will follow.

What is wrong with these kids???? Usually no moral fiber of parents, schools, pastors, role models, etc. Pick the choices, any choice and you would probably be right. There are no just and exact punishments for their actions being carried out. This is shown in many of the laws our politicians have passed, who have been voted in by these same people. These animals have more rights then the victim. Their parents have more rights then the parents of the victim. Not all parents are at fault either.

Was it posted on MySpace? The only thing I've seen MySpace good for is teenagers with self low esteem to get attention. They need to shut those kind of sites down for people under 18. Also parents see it as cheap entertainment but don't keep an eye on them while on the web. Most parents don't really have a clue what their kids are doing these days. I'm sure we will see more of this unless the parents or the government steps in.

Are you proposing a final solution? Perhaps if the families were placed into re-education camps to better understand their role in society... Not a bad idea there. Servus!

Jan: AMEN! Everything you say is point on! My parents tooks us kids to the park, picnics, the beach. We had cookouts and sat together at dinner and talked about our day. All entertainment that costs virtually pennies. We all turned out good. Responsible, hard working, caring sensible citizens.

Kids are not taught to respect each other or adults. Parents let them walk all over them and they think they can do this to anybody. They are taught to think about "me" above anyone else. Also if they do get disciplined at school mommy or daddy is running in defending their little babies. Let them take responsibility for their actions.

Well the good news is they will always get caught and they will never be able to lie about it if they keep posting it on the internet for everyone to see.

The problem with kids today is that the parents are not invovled with their kids anymore. They're too busy with their own lives and let the kids go where they want when they want, with whom they want. They don't really know their own kids. They need boundaries, direction, discipline, chores, time and attention from the parents and rules. I watch the kids in our neighborhood and am amazed at how many of them are out half the night. Where are the parents? The kids only know what they're taugt!

I agree with Amy. They must be brain damaged. With all the news stories about kids getting in trouble again and again, the message should be clear as day: Don't post your beatdown videos to youtube! You need to go viral. Use email, anonymous ftp sites, or bittorrent.

Kids? What is wrong with the parents that they were raised like this, or what is wrong with society? We have some very serious problems in the world.

Thursday, Jul 17 at 11:52 AM Brad wrote ...

Parents need to play the significant role in controling their childrens behavior. The acorn never falls far from the oak. The pendulum has swung too far the opposite direction. Discipline needs to fall down the middle, not to harsh or abusive and not to light, it requires simple common sense.
