Police look for robber of Mishawaka credit union

MISHAWAKA — A man who wore a hooded sweat shirt backward to hide his face robbed a credit union at gunpoint Wednesday afternoon.

Police were called to the Credit Union Center of Indiana, 3631 E. Edison Road, about 1:20 p.m. after a teller reported getting robbed.

According to police reports, a man entered the credit union wearing a white hooded sweat shirt turned backward so the hood covered his face. Two eye holes were cut in the hood, and the man concealed his eyes with sunglasses.

The man — described as white, 5-foot-7, weighing about 150 pounds and possibly with a southern accent — demanded money from one teller and threatened to blow up the building.

Police said the man collected some money, then went to a second teller and demanded money again.

The man told the credit union’s employees to get on the ground and to count to five before getting up. He left the bank with more than $2,700, according to the police report.

Police said the man then left the building. Witnesses accounts say the man left on foot or possibly in a red Ford Ranger pickup truck.
