A 19-year-old Bremen man has been charged with a class B felony robbery in conjunction with a purse-snatching that resulted in the victim being dragged down the road behind a car.

Michael Hummel, 19, allegedly was part of an incident that occurred April 4 in which a 59-year-old woman was accosted by two teens in an Elkhart parking lot as she arrived for work at 5:30 a.m.

According to police, the teens grabbed the woman’s purse and jumped into a vehicle. However, as they drove away, the victim’s arm was trapped in the purse, and she was dragged behind the car for a short distance.

The victim suffered cuts and scrapes from the incident.

One suspect, a 17-year-old of Elkhart, was arrested in April. However, Hummel was not caught until earlier this month, when Indiana State Police troopers found him in Bremen.

Hummel remained in the Elkhart County Jail Thursday in lieu of a $75,000 bond. His next court appearance is set for July 24.
