SOUTH BEND — Victor Pellico III was sentenced Monday to 2½ years behind bars in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash last year on the Bypass according to the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office.

Pellico, who had alcohol in his blood, failed to stop after he struck and killed Danielle Jones, 27, on Nov. 18.

Jones, of South Bend, was standing outside her vehicle on the side of the road when Pellico’s truck hit her.

Pellico was sentenced to four years on count 1, failing to stop at the scene of an accident, resulting in death, the prosecutor’s office said.

He must serve two years in the Indiana Department of Correction with the remaining two-year sentence suspended. He will be on probation for three years, which means if he violates any terms of his probation, a judge could order him back to prison to fill out the remaining two-year suspended sentence behind bars.

On the count II charge of operating a vehicle with 0.15 or more grams of alcohol in his system, Pellico was ordered to serve six months in prison, to be served after his two-year term expires on the first charge.

Pellico’s license was suspended for nearly three years, and he must pay court costs, fines and fees.
