SOUTH BEND — Police are investigating a double stabbing on South Bend's west side Tuesday night.

They were called to a unit at the Beacon Heights Apartments on Putnam Place, near the intersection of Ardmore Trail and Bendix Drive, around 9 p.m.

Investigators say a man entered an apartment and began fighting with a man inside. That's when the victim grabbed a knife.

"The suspect gained control of the knife and stabbed the victim once in the side of the head. The victim then got the knife back and stabbed the suspect twice; once in the arm once in the side," said Sgt. Chuck Stokes of the South Bend Police Dept.

Police say the victim suffered minor injuries. The suspect took himself to a local hospital. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
