SOUTH BEND — Prosecutors Tuesday charged a 45-year-old man in the July 4 shooting of a driver who tried to intervene in a fight outside the Charles Black Youth Center.

Henry Lee Jones Jr. faces one count of aggravated battery, a Class B felony, and one count of criminal recklessness, a Class C felony.

Prosecutors allege that Jones fired a gun at 37-year-old Irise Hendrix or at the van she was driving when she tried to intervene in a fight between Jones and another man. The bullet Jones allegedly fired went through the driver’s door of the van and into the victim’s abdomen, causing damage to her internal organs.

The fight reportedly was over money.
