Police have arrested three men in connection with a string of burglaries in eastern and western St. Joseph County.

On Monday, police were called to a home in the 55000 block of Wynnwood Drive in Osceola after two mountain bikes were stolen from a garage.

In a news release, Sgt. Bill Redman, St. Joseph County police spokesman, said police discovered that someone used the remote garage door opener found in a car parked in the driveway.

Police arrived at the home about 2:30 a.m. and used a K-9 unit to search the area. While searching, officers also noticed a car with an Elkhart County license plate parked in a suspicious location.

Redman said police spotted two men in the area and gave chase with their dog. One of the suspects returned to the car and started driving away.

Police pulled over the car and found 24 different items, including a DVD player, a video game system, purses and several garage door openers. Redman said the items later were identified as being from six different burglaries.

Police arrested 26-year-old Christopher Ryckeart of Elkhart. On Tuesday, after questioning the man, 21-year-old Frank Albano of Osceola was arrested as an accomplice in the case. Both were in the St. Joseph County jail as of Wednesday morning.

Wednesday afternoon prosecutors charged Ryckeart with four counts of burglary, a Class B felony. He faces up to 20 years in prison on each count if convicted.

Also Tuesday, in a separate case, police arrested a South Bend man in western St. Joseph County after a burglary in the 56300 block of Orchid Road about 9:45 a.m.

Redman said police were dispatched to the area for a burglary in progress.

A neighbor was able to provide police with a description of the burglar’s vehicle and they stopped the car near the intersection of Indiana 2 and Elmer Road.

Police said items found in the car, which had been reported stolen in Goshen, were identified as belonging to the homeowner.

Dennis Douglas, 38, of South Bend was taken to the St. Joseph County jail.

Redman said police believe Douglas may be responsible for as many as six burglary cases in the western part of the county.

Seve-O, if one is your nephew, then why did you not provide a better direction in life for him? I know one of them recently just got out of prison for the same crime. Guess facing up to 80 years might put an end to his career! Sadly, the honest, hardworking people of this community will pay for him to have a roof, food and clothing. SJCPD and the neighbors proved, Crime does not pay!

Probably stems from Monaco, maybe I should just start naming the ones that stole and did drugs AND drank during working hours.

I was just thinking, maybe I should start using the name "Bill" or "Kevin" maybe. Oh and maybe say I live in Elkhart.

Pardon the person using my name because everyone that knows me knows I don't use drugs and surely didn't use them 10 years ago.
