SOUTH BEND — A 15-year-old boy was shot in the arm Wednesday afternoon in a drive-by shooting.

Police were notified of the shooting after the boy was taken to the Memorial Hospital emergency room just before 2 p.m.

At the hospital, police were told the shooting happened at the intersection of Vassar Avenue and Elmer Street, near the intersection of Olive Street and Lincoln Way West.

At the scene police found shell casings, which were collected into evidence.

Witnesses said the 15-year-old had been standing near the road when someone in a car — make, model and color unknown —– drove by, did a U-turn back toward him and then fired a gun several times, hitting the boy once.

Police said the case is still under investigation, but that the boy’s injury was not life-threatening.
