SOUTH BEND — During a routine drive-by, a landlord was surprised Thursday to find one of his properties on fire.

About 5 p.m., Chris Kohler, just finished with work, drove by one of his properties in the 300 block of East Ewing Street to find the unattached garage on fire.

South Bend firefighters extinguished the blaze in just a few minutes, Capt. Robert Brechtl said, but not before it burned the east wall down to its studs.

Kohler said the garage, which was sealed, was empty except for a few items left behind by previous tenants; there were no flammables inside.

The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation.

Seeing how the garage is roasted, the tennants now have half of the house left. So, the landlord should cut the rent in half too.

Suspicious? Hardly. If he had hoped to profit from this fire, it would have been set in the middle of the night and to the house, not to an unattached garage. I don't know him-he COULD be a sociopathic arsonist, but if he did this one, he's also extremely mentally challenged. He still has the property, and work to do to repair it, and a hit on his insurance which will send his rates up, and unfavorable attention on the property which could deter potential renters. So, what would be his point?

This fires are caused by psychotic people who enjoy to see flames shooting out of garages or buildings. And they enjoy seeing them burn. Where are the psychiatric doctors who could help this poor little psychos in drugs and amphetamines.. they need so much help. God send someone to this poor souls.
