MISHAWAKA – Several visitors to the city woke Sunday morning with an unpleasant surprise – car windows smashed and items missing.

At least five cars parked in hotel lots were broken into between late Saturday night and early Sunday morning.

Police reported car break-ins at the Holiday Inn Express, 420 W. University Drive; the Courtyard by Marriott, 4825 N. Main Street; the Spring Hill Suites, 5225 Edison Lakes Parkway; and the Varsity Club hotel, 3800 N. Main.

Items stolen included a stereo, a flat screen TV, an American Girl doll and clothes, two laptops and an MP3 player.

Police said a flashlight and a screwdriver were found in one of the vehicles, but they have no leads on a suspect at this time.
