Keystone RV announces layoffs

CEO Ron Fenech says 290 workers were laid off Thursday morning, effective immediately. Fenech says the uncertainty of the market is the problem amid the struggling economy and high gas prices. He says it's not uncommon for RV companies to lay off workers heading into the fall when the summer camping season ends, but adds Keystone has never done this before. The company will still employ 2,600 people. The announcement comes just three weeks after Monaco Coach laid off 1,400 workers in Elkhart County. Keystone was a class act and they even had a place to put the RV inside out of the weather when it was brutally cold. I am thankful for the fact that I work for KRV now. The management and team atmosphere here is the BEST in the business bar none. If Mr. Fenech has a fleet of Mercedes he deserves them. I am sure if he thought that by selling part of the "fleet" would help a KRV family he would do it. The fact of the matter is the economy is not doing well so wake up and smell the coffee. Ron Fenech came to each one of our plants warning us a few months ago. There was also a company wide memo sent out. There isn't much more they could have done. Keystone is a very well managed company. The industry is on a down turn and I have to tell you, that no Keystone employee can tell you they were surprised.
