Keystone RV layoffs

GOSHEN — Another blow to the RV industry — Keystone RV in Goshen is laying off almost 300 workers.

CEO Ron Fenech says 290 workers were laid off Thursday morning, effective immediately.

Fenech says the uncertainty of the market is the problem amid the struggling economy and high gas prices.

He says it's not uncommon for RV companies to lay off workers heading into the fall when the summer camping season ends, but adds Keystone has never done this before.

The company will still employ 2,600 people.

The announcement comes just three weeks after Monaco Coach laid off 1,400 workers in Elkhart County.

Think outside the box for once. The democrats have been in power for 2 years and have done NOTHING! Thats just the tip of the iceberg if people are stupid enough to vote for obama.

yes we were warned that this might happen but it was still a shock when management came out of the office and walk up to coworkers and a very good partner and watch them get the news that they were no longer employed it was a very tough day to see so many hard workers walk out those doors knowing they had given everything they had.they will be greatly missed not only as good workers;but also as great people

Who is Mr. French - wasn't he the butler on Family Affair? His name is Ron Fenech and he is one heck of a stand up guy.

I feel for all of you as my wife has been unemployed for several months. So Mitch, where are all the jobs you promised during your campaign??? Oh that's right that was only talk so you could take 2 trips to China at taxpayers expense. Great job oh mighty worthless one.

I'm a group leader at KRV and I just want to say that if keystone had not been prepared then the layoff would have been much worse. Those that think the management doesn't care about them are ignorant. I had to say goodbye to some great employees and it's not easy. I haven't stopped thinking about it since it happened and it's a really crappy feeling to tell someone they don't have a job anymore even though they did nothing wrong.

I WAS LAID OFF FROM A TEMP SERVICE IN APRIL. BEEN LOOKING FOR WORK. ON WAITING LISTS WITH HIGH AS 3500 AHEAD OF ME. YEAH IT IS GETTING BAD.

I used to travel the RV business and seen them all. I was a repairman. Keystone was a class act and they even had a place to put the RV inside out of the weather when it was brutally cold. They and many more are suffering from the economy "fall out" from high gas prices. So, "InDaKnow" you don't know crap! Get your facts straight before you type a comment and an education.

there will be another layoff at newmar in 2 weeks !

InDaKnow? I have worked for Monaco and for Newmar. I am thankful for the fact that I work for KRV now. The management and team atmosphere here is the BEST in the business bar none. If Mr. Fenech has a fleet of Mercedes he deserves them. I am sure if he thought that by selling part of the "fleet" would help a KRV family he would do it. The fact of the matter is the economy is not doing well so wake up and smell the coffee.

yes it is true, keystone is the best rv company I too have ever worked for. They are fair and the pay is good. And I say this even though I was one of the layed off workers. thank you keystone for the good job while I had it.!!!!!

You can say what you want, but there isn't an RV company in the area that I would rather work for. Ron Fenech came to each one of our plants warning us a few months ago. There was also a company wide memo sent out. There isn't much more they could have done. Keystone is a very well managed company. The industry is on a down turn and I have to tell you, that no Keystone employee can tell you they were surprised. Our company prepared us for this before hand.

My heart goes out to all the families suffering these layoffs. My family went through this when Travel Supreme closed and we had no notice either. We have managed to make it because we weren't trying to keep up with the neighbors. We may not have the biggest house or the most expensive car, but we also don't worry about where our next meal is coming from.
