NAPPANEE — An accident involving a horse and buggy just west of Nappanee Saturday night left a driver with minor injuries, but the horse wasn't so fortunate and had to be euthanized.

The Elkhart County Sheriff's Department said Mindy Yoder, 21, of Nappanee, was headed north on County Road 100 near County Road 52 when the horse became spooked as the southbound buggy traveled by.

The buggy, operated by 31-year-old David Miller, of Nappanee, headed across the center lane and Yoder's 2005 Jeep Cherokee collided head on with the animal.

Yoder was treated at the scene for minor cuts.

Police say no citations were issued as a result of the crash.
