School bells bring an end to summer break for PHM studentsby John Paul (jpaul@wsbt.com)
Wednesday marked the first day of school for students in the Penn-Harris-Madison district. (WSBT photo) ST. JOSEPH COUNTY -- Wednesday morning, bright and early, the school buses picked up thousands of Penn-Harris-Madison students all throughout St. Joseph County. The big yellow school buses marked the end of the summer break. Several parents told WSBT News their children were nervous, but excited. For the last few months, students have had plenty of time to relax, but a big 'Welcome Back' sign on the Penn High marquee welcomed the district's 10,000 students. "Summer went way too fast," a parent told WSBT. "We aren't ready to go." Many students were excited about seeing their friends again, but some parents were concerned after receiving busing information only the day before school began. "We always have some late buses," District Spokeswoman Teresa Carroll said. "Last minute construction on Dragoon Road caused some problems." Carroll said the district will look at this year's issues and plan for a much smoother first day next year. "We'll most likely get our information to the mailing house a little earlier," said Carroll. Most PopularMore Good Stuff |
