Woman killed in Lincoln Way East collision

MISHAWAKA — A 60 year-old woman was killed in a two-car collision at Oakside Avenue and Lincoln Way East in Mishawaka Saturday morning.

The crash reportedly occurred about 7 a.m. As of 9:45 a.m., that portion of Lincoln Way East was still closed.

A witness said a blue Corvair traveling east on Lincoln Way appears to have been struck by another vehicle turning off of Oakside Avenue. The witness, Jennifer Plonski, who lives at the corner where the accident took place, said she was awakened by the sound of the impact of the two cars colliding and called 911 at about 7:10 a.m.

St. Joseph County Deputy Coroner Chuck Hurley said the woman was pronounced dead at 8:40 a.m. at Memorial Hospital.

Authorities are not releasing her name yet pending notification of the family.
