ELKHART — Layoffs in the RV industry have sent Indiana's unemployment rate skyrocketing. Thousands of local families are feeling the hardships that come with layoffs. Monday the state is kicking off an eight-week program to help those people find new jobs.

The workshops begin Monday and will last eight weeks. Mondays they are at the Nappanee Public Library at 9 a.m.; Wendesday meetings are at the Lakeville Newton Center at 1 p.m. and Thursday meetings are at 6 p.m. at the Elkhart WorkOne office.

Just how are the people supposed to afford to go to these so-called workone workshops?!! Duh!? Unemployed equals no Money!! I see Mitch is still driving his RV around! Yipee! Balanced budget for the State! Unemployment doesn't seem to work to well for my budget! Enough about BioFuels! Hasn't done a thing except help raise the price of food!!

Like everyone else has mentioned here so far. The workshops won't help a thing unless those people are retrained for other jobs. There's only a few jobs out there and most of them are ones that require some type of degree or experience. The ones can afford to go to school while unemployed need to sign up for classes for another trade as soon as possible.

MM, they DID just change the WorkOne program. We can see how effective that was! I don't understand Mitch's position that he has brought so many new jobs to Indiana and balanced the state budget. All those new jobs are south of here and north of Evansville, I'm sure. These workshops are a pathetic effort on his part to make people think the state is doing something for them. It's a bunch of smoke and mirrors.

there is so many people that want to work but ther is no one hiring. not even a macdonalds. This is not stiring the pot, it is the truth. we need jobs and start working right away so we can pay taxes and buy a lot of stuff and small cars so our economy will star running all over again. Besides that, we need to pay for our internet connection and the phone and gas bills that comes every month. The morgage of the house and the insurance, life, health, fire and othre items that need to be paid.

workshops are not jobs.work 1 needs to have companies that are hiring and when people show up looking for work, send them to the company.michigan used to do that. do you think our state elected officials(public servants) will change the programs if we all contact them?
