ELKHART — A 14-year-old Elkhart Central High school student was Tasered while police were trying to break up a fight at the school, police say.

Police say they were called to the high school at 1 Blazer Boulevard about 1:30 p.m. Friday after receiving reports that a fight between the 14-year-old boy and a 16-year-old boy had broken out.

The 14-year-old was battering the older student as administrators and police were trying to break up the fight up, said Lt. Ed Windbigler, an Elkhart police spokesman. The 14-year-old continued to fight, forcing police to Taser him.

"Students don’t usually get Tasered, especially in the presence of a school administrator and police officer," Windbigler said.

The 14-year-old was arrested before being released to his parents.

An Elkhart Community Schools spokeswoman said the corporation is looking into the incident.

Meanwhile, another fight was reported at Elkhart Memorial High School, 2608 California Road.

Just after 1:15 p.m. Saturday, police were called to the school in reference to two 16-year-old girls battering another 16-year-old girl inside a woman’s restroom.

The victim was hit "a few times" before being able to run away, Windbigler said.

The victim later told her parents about the incident and police were called. No arrests were made.
