MISHAWAKA – Police are continuing to investigate after a couple’s garage was hit by gunshots six times early Wednesday morning.

Police found six bullet holes in the overhead door of the garage, located on the alley of a home in the 600 block of Lincoln Way East.

A car parked in the garage was also hit at least three times, police said.

No one was injured in the shooting, but officers located three bullets in the car and another in that went through the garage and into a metal shed behind the house.

The couple who lives in the home told police they did not know why their garage was targeted.

Police had initially been called to the area about 4:30 a.m. Wednesday on a "shots fired" call, but they were unable to verify the shooting until the homeowner called police just before 7:30 a.m.

Shots, breakins and so on. I live on Milburn and nothing surprises me anymore! I live in a nice neighborhood, except for the drunk who walks the streets, screams, swears, threatens and has had the Mishawaka Police come out so many times I have lost count,..Guess what?,.. nothing happens,..So why do you think crime is on the rise? Because they can do it and get away with it!

Mishawaka Native: crime has never changed per capita... but, that isn't for regions. Crime is worse in the midwest while it is less on the coasts. The per capita crime rate isn't greater, but there is more violence. Put another way, kids today are more rude and more violent than past generations, and more of them live in the midwest. It's likely because the midwest has something that places like NY city don't; jobs for unskilled/semiskilled workers and cheap housing...

Mishawaka Native let me enlighten you.I've worked in public safety in Mishawaka for nearly 15 years.I can tell you with experience that you hear a very small percentage of what crime is actually occurring.Shots fired calls happen numerous times every day in Mishawaka, you just don't hear about them because they don't release the truth to the media. The crime stats and crime maps in the papers are total lies. They lie about everything to protect their precious image. It's wrong to lie,but it happens

Mishawaka Native, If we`re not involved how do we see and know what is going on in our area? we do call an officer out and the people are long gone. they did pick up one guy from the alley and thats because he was beat up and throwed out of a car in the alley. we all made sure he was not ran over till officer arrived.so don`t call people cry babies for doing the same thing you did. post your thoughts

I used to live a small town and it wasn't one bit safer or quieter than SB/Mishawaka. At least big cities HAVE police forces and don't have to rely on a half-dozen deputies spread all over a county. Scary thing is, this shooting proves that someone with a gun is too stupid to know that bullets don't just stop when they hit something like a wall. They keep going until they they use up all that energy. Or was someone shooting at someone, and is just too selfish to care how many people got killed?

This is why I choose to live in a small quiet town. Petty theft is the biggest problem we have here, thank goodness. You don't see people toting guns around or fighting in the schools. If I lived in So. Bend or Mishawaka I would be afraid to let my children play outside or walk to school. Seriously, I do feel sorry for those of you that have to deal with these issues every day. God be with you.

Will all you cry babies about the crime stop it! Crime isn't on the rise. You can look it up on the 'net people. Man, some of you are a bunch of worry worts. Get a life and get involved in the community more. Like for instance: community policing... neighborhood watch. Oh yeah, you're all to busy for that nonsense aren't you. It's not your problem. it's the polices, right? My fellow Mishawakians, you have to be proactive in your community. Get involved.

The crime rate here in Mishawaka is rising FAST. If something is not dont quick this once quiet peacefull town will turn into Gary East East. MAybe it is time for those in charge in Mishawaka to forget abotu building homes for rich, trying to play it off they are for the lower middle class). And worry about the crime that will soon over take Mishawaka and there will not be any reason for anyone to buy the rivertown houses they seem to be wasting money on.

Finally a shooting that happens in Mishawaka gets reported. Theres been around 10 others already this month that never made the media (like everything else that happens). We (the public) should be informed the truth about what is happening in our neighborhoods.
