NAPPANEE — A convicted child molester was arrested for failing to register as a sex offender after police learned he was working in a Nappanee tanning salon.

Anthony Todd, 39, is on parole for a child molestation conviction. State law requires that he register as a sex offender in the county where he lives and works.

A coworker of Todd’s at the Kiwi Hunt tanning salon in Nappanee called police after learning of his past conviction.

At trial on August 8, Todd told the judge his wife owns the salon and he was not really working there or receiving a paycheck.

However, customers and employees testified that he did work at the salon, some days alone until 11 p.m. Witnesses also testified Todd regularly applied temporary tattoos for young men and women customers and performed other duties required of employees.

Todd was found guilty on August 20 of Failure to Register, a Class D Felony, and faces up to three years in prison. He will be sentenced September 17.

If one is born with a brain that is hard-wired to be attracted to children, then that person needs a lobotomy. If one is just born with these urges, then these urges should be surgically and permanently removed for the safety of children. I am sorry if that leaves a person with half a brain, but that is the lesser evil compared to a trail of traumatized kids.

child molester should go straight to jail and not to tanning salons. No mercy, no temporary stay on some small lock up, they should send them to the big house and keep all children away from them because if your hire child molester you become an accomplice. Would you want your child to be molested like and old rug?

Tammy congrats! Knowing you, you will overcome the negative publicity and make it a respectable business. As for Tony and Bernette Todd they both need to fry! Bernette should have been charged right along with Tony. I know from first hand experience that neither should be trusted or given a second chance. ANYONE who thinks that someone who has harmed a child needs or deserves a second chance should be spending time on a couch with a psychiatrist somewhere! I commend the person who reported him!

You're right. Everyone should have to wear a scarlet letter. Society would be better off if we all knew who did what. When I was in the Army every sunday morning the base newspaper had a list of everyone that broke the law. Name, rank, crime committed, penalties imposed on the person. It was good reading...

yeah, most are repeat offenders they are just more careful the next time or kill the child and hide the body so there are no wittnesses, I was molested it screwed up my life still messed up as an adult, no I dont continue they cycle of molestation as I have 3 children but the guy who molested me as a child was guilty of a couple before me they said he was rehibilitated in prision no ha wasn't Id kill anyone who messed with my kids I know who helpless it feels you never forget

I don't blame him for not registering. I have never been in trouble with the law and don't intend to. It just seems the average person can look up people on a sex offenders list and harass them even after they have already served there dept to soecity. Maybe every person convicted of any felony should also have there pictures posted online. Car theft, drug dealing, murder, why should only creepy pervs be chased out of your neighborhood?

With all due respect, I'd think someone who owns a business would have a better knowledge of vocabulary and punctuation. Your posts would be much easier to read and understand- just a thought. I agree with you that the media should take more responsibility in reporting factual information and I pray that your business will survive this devastating news. Nappanee doesn't need any more negative, considering everything they have gone through within the past year.

Let me tell you the whole story of this man. The child he molested was his stepdaughter. He was in Prison for that and when it came time for his release, his wife sent her daughter back to England so Tony could get out. She sent her daughter away for this man! She has protected him and hid his true identity for many many years! She is in complete denial that he has done anything wrong, even tho the courts have told her different. Yet she wears the cloak of a strong christian, read the book again!

I think this guy is scum. I think his wife is nuts for being with this scum. I don't think that working in a tanning salon was against his probation. Not registering is his current crime. If a child is in a position to be abused at a tanning salon, the parents need looking into.

Friday, Aug 29 at 9:51 PM Christina wrote ...

Why give him a second chance? I know one guy that did get a second chance and then he turned around and done it again and raped another girl. So people like that don't need another chance to hurt any other children. I think once they are convicted of it they don't need to be in the outside world because then children won't be safe from one that has been charged

These freaks make me sick. How about some nice looking females lets say, at least in their 20's. Is that too much to ask? I think the majority of these knuckle heads couldn't get a date with a real women so they have to go after young girls.

Born with a brain that is sexually attracted to children the way normal men are attracted to women... what do you have to have done in a past life to deserve that curse? I would like to think that if it were me, I would be able to think; I have this in me, but that doesn't mean I'm going to act on it... I'll be there are a lot who don't. They become priests...

Friday, Aug 29 at 7:53 PM Mel wrote ...

No, not everyone deserves a second chance. The victims of child molestors will NEVER get a second chance at innocence. I don't know what stats you are looking at, but a high amount of child molestors are repeated offenders, because it is a sickness. Some have admitted that they cannot take the temptation. Some move on to kill their victims after they molest them so the victim won't tell on them. I don't think they should be allowed back into society to do it again.

5.21pm you said that ever one should get a socond chance noway they dont need a socond chance they hurt someone they should be in jail for life.

Friday, Aug 29 at 4:58 PM Jason wrote ...

Go away Go away for a long time. Dont segragrate him in jail and put him in general population. That is where he will get what he deserves.

Friday, Aug 29 at 4:21 PM iis wrote ...

Not all child molesters are repeat offenders. I'm not saying he should get away with not registering but check out the stats. Whatever happened to people paying for their crimes and not being judged for their past. Don't judge a person until you have walked a mile in their shoes. Everyone deserves a second chance.

His wife should be charged with a crime too. Did she know her husband was a convicted child molester and did she know he was not registered? She was helping that criminal break the law. What a creep. I feel sorry for all of the people that he touched while in the course of his work. Wonder if there are more children out there that had "weird" experiences while he worked there? If so, come forward and press charges so they keep locked up.
