MISHAWAKA — A serious crash shut down the area around McKinley Avenue and Fir Road in Mishawaka Thursday afternoon.

A viewer sent us a picture of the crash right after it happened.

Police say one driver was heading northbound and didn't stop for the red light. The impact knocked one vehicle on its side.

The people inside both vehicles only had minor injuries.

when people quit trying to turn their little cars from "the little engine that could" to the "little engine that shouldnt've....maybe THEN people will learn.

Maybe Cornfusion the 911 operator will say: Will get to you after they finish the click-or-ticket joke or after the bias investigation why they shot a 'suspect' in the back 10 times. Or they are busy covering up the drunken co-worker crash. Or at the scene of a co-worker slapping his wife/co-worker/girlfriend.

The students read this comment section so everyone questioning the ACCIDENT needs to stop. These kids are suffering enough as well as the family (especially the kid who hit her). I remember what it feels like to grieve a classmate that died in a freak accident. Some of you need to grow up and show some compassion or not write in here at all. Some of these comments are beyond frustrating, irrational, uneducated, and just plain dumb.

And Homer I hope that you are the first person who needs police assistance after those layoffs so you can be the first to hear a 911 operator say, "We're sorry, all our officers are busy saving other people. Stay on the line for the next available operator or please call back tomorrow. Thank You!"

Please do not jump to conclusions that some one was on a cell phone or attempt to generalize all woman as beng slow dimwitted thinkers. My mother is a woman, my wife is a woman, my daughter is a young woman and my boss is a woman. They are intelligent, warm hearted caring PEOPLE who may make a mistake from time to time, like taking up with the likes of a non-woman who couldn't be where he is without her. Frankly, the safest drivers I know are women and I resent the implication the are inferior.

I am sure Mishawaka,State and county police were there as they saturate this area with their presence.I think they argue who going to write tickets on Fir for speeding. The 30 mph is stupid for this road. Of course they never obey it as they rush to the gym or station on Day. Thanks guys, hope a round of layoffs are coming real soon.

Probably was talking on their cell phone or doing a text message. I have to text message on my cell phone. I refuse to pay by cell company money, for something I can open my mouth and say the same thing.

Too bad that viewer could not send you a picture BEFORE it happened and then you could have reported it and prevented it from happening. You media types are pretty powerful when yuo want to be!
