SOUTH BEND – A 39-year-old man was assaulted and robbed late Thursday night while walking to his southeast side home from a bar.

Police said the man realized he was being followed about 10 p.m. and turned into an alley in the 500 block of South St. Joseph Street, where the two men caught up with him.

The man told police he was hit over the head at least twice and knocked to the ground. A fight ensued, but the attackers were able to get the man’s wallet out of his pocket before fleeing, police said.

Police said the man suffered scrapes and minor abrasions on his body, but he declined medical treatment.

i would have ducked into an alley too.it's called hiding yourself until danger passes.

Probably because most alleys are poorly lit and it's easy to conceal yourself, really not bad thinking on his part..He just failed to conceal himself well enough.

To Why: South St Joseph is not exactly a main street and it is right in the middle of gang territory. The people in that area that claim to be robbed at that night either 1) should know the area well enough not to go off Michigan Street in the first place, 2) are too drunk to know any better, or 3) which is the most likely possibility, was looking for crack and instead got cracked.

Why would you be so stupid as to run into an alley? Stay on the public street or run to a door to knock for help. Something isn't making sense here.
