NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. — A local National Guard member got top honors for his work in Iraq.

Spc. Jonathan Rodgers from North Manchester received the Purple Heart Thursday night. He is a member of the 293rd Infantry's Alpha Company based in Warsaw.

He and Spc. Jeremiah Deyarmin from Crown Point were honored at their base in Iraq.

A roadside bomb exploded near their vehicle during a convoy mission.

“We were just rolling down the road and we didn’t catch it in time,” Rodgers said. “We were getting ready to key it up on the mics, to let everybody know. But before we got a chance it went off and after that it’s a blur.”

I am praying for them every day and my church pastor told me that Jesus will protect this God s children. They are doing such a wonderful job over there and we all should be proud of all of them. I only fear that he will now have nigtmares at night when he goes to sleep. So many dead people will make anyone to have our emotions on edge and sometimes wake up in the middle of the night with swety hands and headackes. Jesus, may your holy presence be with this your children and protect them always.
