Boil Water Advisory

SOUTH BEND — A boil water advisory is in effect for the northwest side of South Bend after a water main break Sunday.

Residents who live in the area bordered by Bendix to the west, Lathrop to the south, Riverside Drive to the east and Auten Road to the north are affected.

Any water for drinking or cooking should be boiled for five minutes before using. The advisory is in effect until Wednesday.

The water main break was repaired and pressure was restored by 4 p.m., but residents are being encouraged to boil their water as a precaution as part of standard procedure after a drop in water pressure.

Rain also washed out a section of Boland Drive between Portage and Riverside, which caused a gas main break. NIPSCO crews were working to cap the leak.

Police were going door to door to let people know about the leak, but there was no mandatory evacuation.
