NAPPANEE — Indiana State Police are investigating another case of counterfeit goods offered at an area festival.

This time, they said, a vendor was selling knock-off purses at the Nappanee Apple Festival Saturday.

The vendor was just one of more than 150 craft and commercial booths at the event, which runs through Sunday.

But the case is one of several that keep cropping up at area festivals and shops.

Earlier this month, it was the Marshall County Blueberry Festival.

Sgt. Lourdes Lemler told the Tribune police confiscated hundreds of knock-offs and fakes, from jeans to sunglasses, from at least five booths in Centennial Park during that event.

At the same time, the ISP Cyber Crimes Unit opened an investigation because they found one vendor with a credit card scanner hooked to a cell phone, which raised identity theft concerns.

And in May, police in South Bend seized thousands of dollars' worth of shoes, DVDs and other products illegally sold as originals.

Police have not identified the Nappanee vendor in Saturday's case or detailed any charges filed.
