3 arrested at new Harbor Shores golf course

BENTON HARBOR, Mich. (AP) — Benton Harbor police have arrested three protesters where a new Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course is being built near Lake Michigan.

Police Chief Al Mingo says the protesters refused to budge from the path of earth-moving equipment being used at the course under construction at the Harbor Shores development. Mingo says his officers made the arrests on his orders Monday morning.

He says the protesters taken into custody face likely charges of disorderly conduct and refusing to obey a lawful order.

A Berrien County judge last month tossed out a lawsuit challenging the project and its use of part of the city's Jean Klock Park for private development.

A federal suit seeks to halt construction of the golf course.
