Niles considers cutting Dial-A-Ride service

NILES — People who use Dial a Ride may soon have to find another way to get around town. The Niles City Council discussed potential cuts to the program Monday night.

Fuel costs and a reduction in funding could cause them to cut their east-west route. The service would no longer be available on Saturday and three hours would be cut each day during the week. City officials say it's an unwanted necessity.

"It's unfortunate in the financial situation, not only this Dial A Ride, other people are facing this as well. And we used to offer a very broad service for a lot of hours and a lot of other people didn't do that," said Terry Eull, Niles City Administrator.

The council will vote on the cuts next month. If they're passed, the changes will go into effect November 1st.
