SOUTH BEND — South Bend firefighters and University of Notre Dame firefighters responded to the scene of a gas leak near the Eddy Street Commons construction Friday morning.

Assistant Chief Chico Rodriguez of the South Bend Fire Department said responders were called to the intersection of Angela Boulevard and Eddy Street about 8:30 a.m.

At one point Angela was closed from Notre Dame Avenue to Twyckenham Drive and traffic was being rerouted.

The road has since reopened.

I just hate when a gas leak flares up! My home is very susceptible to gas explosions and it makes me very nervous. I guess I could crawl out the back way if things get too thick.

R, I dont need to have no proof, its right here in my computer tv. Thats a fact you big silly! I hope all that gases didnt go up in the sky cos the birds, like canaries, they dont like gas and they'll drop out of the sky. If anyone sees a canary lying on the ground, please look after him or her because they have important work to do monitoring the greenhouse I think.

Brenda is right. They should put our flares to warn people of a gas leak.

Breadna. How is it you think you smelled something then tell us gas is "odoless"? And typically you try to blame your own dog! LOL my hubby does that too!I dont think there was a splosion but I'm deaf so maybe? I worry about my hairlooms too, if anything happened to my Dirty Cherubs collection, well I would just DIE. You are right we need facts and informations so we can decide if we need gases in our houses! If I had my way I would have no gaseses in my house at all! Least everyone is safe.

No wonder I smelled something weird when I was walking my dog the other morning. I hope there is no explosion of any kind. I know that houses blows up in pieces when a gas leak is in the house and no body notices because it is odoless and colorless. all neighbors need to be told the truth about gas leaks and explosions so we will be able to scape or at least save our heirlooms and precious possessions that otherwise will blow up along with the whole house. We need to know what happened.
