ELKHART — A 14-year-old boy operating a buggy suffered non-life-threatening head injuries in an accident Monday afternoon.

According to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department, the boy, Lyndian M. Zimmerman, of Goshen, was injured when the buggy was hit by a car driven by 35-year-old John M. Clemons, of Goshen.

Police said Clemons was westbound on County Road 38, approaching County Road 9, when he was distracted by something in his car. When he focused his attention back on driving, he told police, the eastbound buggy was closer than he had thought.

Clemons locked up the car’s brakes and then crashed into the buggy, damaging it and cutting the horse, police said.

Lyndian was taken to Elkhart General Hospital, according to the news release, but whether he was admitted after treatment could not be released, according to a hospital spokeswoman.
