Multimedia Related ContentPolice arrested 27-year-old Brooke Biggs Thursday at a home in Osceola. She teaches 7th and 8th grade P.E. at Grissom Middle School and coaches some Penn High School sports. Almost every parent and student WSBT spoke with after school Thursday said the accusations against the teacher are a huge surprise. "I don't believe it right now," said Grissom parent Kim Rassi. "She's my favorite teacher," 8th grade Grissom student Aundraya Leemreis told WSBT. The news that a Grissom Middle School teacher is accused of child seduction was tough for many people to hear. Indiana law defines child seduction as anything from sexual intercourse to fondling a child between the ages of 16 and 18. "I don't want to make judgment until I know what really happened," said Candace Brown, parent of 7th and 8th grade Grissom students. A PHM spokesperson said the allegations of misconduct go back several months. A report was filed with St. Joseph County Child Protective Services on July 8. The district put Biggs on administrative leave September 4. Some parents wondered why they weren't notified about the investigation. "I didn't know anything of it," said Lori Leemreis. "For this to be happening, I'm shocked." The St. Joseph County Family Violence/Special Victim's Unit is investigating, but neither police nor the Prosecutor's office would comment. Teachers were briefed about the situation in a meeting around 4 p.m. Thursday. PHM spokesperson Theresa Carroll released a statement saying: "This is a confidential personnel matter, so we cannot discuss it. However I can tell you we are very concerned about the welfare of our students and we do not tolerate the violation of trust our parents have placed in us." But many parents and students say the accusations are tough to believe. "Both my daughters like her very much," said Candace Brown. "They respect her and look up to her." "Miss Biggs is a great teacher and I trust her," another parent said. "She's a lot of fun," said Grissom 8th grader Aundraya Leemreis. "She doesn't seem like the type of person that would ever do that." The Prosecutor's office has 48 hours from the time Biggs was arrested to file formal charges against Biggs. A domestic violence investigator told WSBT we'll likely know more about this case on Friday.
